This pioneer guide to nearly 100 outstanding hostels across the U.S. and select parts of Canada provides all you need to select a hostel in your vacation destination. Experienced backpackers will appreciate that the book includes only those hostels that “made the grade.” Excess weight is a backpackers enemy. Over 250 hostels were personally reviewed, less than 100 were selected. Who wants to carry a book twice as heavy just to have descriptions of bad hostels you’d never want to visit? Long-haul travelers will also recognize the value in the practical information found in the “fast facts” section. Knowing an internet kiosk is onsite can be helpful… knowing free internet access is just 5 blocks away at the local library can be even more helpful. And whether a bed is outfitted with a firm, spring mattress or a foam cot mattress isn’t that important when you’re out for a long weekend. But after a couple months on the road, it’s good information to have. Rookie hostellers will find over 300 photographs to help them know what to expect and put their minds at ease. Each review includes a photo of the hostel exterior and interior. A special “Is this a great hostel for you?” section provides additional tips for solo women, party animals, 30+ yrs., 50+ yrs., couples, families and groups. To explore the book further, check out the Table of Contents , Hostelling 101, and Sample Reviews.
